South African Judicial Investigation Commission filed criminal proceedings against former President Zuma
On the 23rd local time, the South African Judicial Investigation Commission filed a criminal lawsuit against the former South African President Zuma, because Zuma left without the approval of the investigation committee on the 19th of this month and failed to attend the subsequent investigation summons.
The person in charge of the investigation committee stated that a separate date will be arranged to summon Zuma to accept the committee’s investigation. If Zuma refuses to cooperate, he will apply to the Constitutional Court for enforcement.
Zuma served as President of South Africa from 2009 to 2018. On February 13, 2018, South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC, formally requested Zuma to resign.
After stepping down, he was charged with corruption during his tenure and faced as many as 16 charges, some of which accused his team of lawyers of “strategy” that had been delayed for 14 years.
