Abdullah Muhmand, spokesman for the Mohmand district of Pakistan’s official emergency relief organization, rescue 1122, told Xinhua that the large reservoir where the accident occurred was made of bricks and cement and that several children were playing nearby when the wall collapsed.
The children killed and injured were between the ages of 4 and 12, Muhmand said. Rescuers and local residents have pulled the injured children from the rubble and taken them to hospital.
He said the reservoir, which provides water for local residents for years, was in ruins before it collapsed.
