According to Lianhe Zaobao, senior U.S. government officials said that Israel was involved in the behind-the-scenes assassination of Iran’s senior nuclear physicist Fahrizad.
Fahrizad has long been a target of Israel and in the past shared information about its goals and actions with the United States before carrying out covert operations, but the official declined to say if the U.S. government knew before the incident, CNN reported.
Fahrizad is the head of the nuclear program of the Iranian Ministry of Defense. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu “named” Fahrizad when talking about Iran’s nuclear program in 2018.
On the afternoon of November 27, Fahrizad’s car reportedly exploded in a street in the village of Abu Shad, 60 kilometers northeast of Tehran, followed by shooting, killing many people. At present, no organization or individual has announced that the attack has been carried out.
