Seeking support for the EU budget, the President of Poland and the President of the Czech Republic held a meeting.

December 9th Local time, Polish President Duda arrived in Prague, Czech Republic, to start a working visit. Duda met with Czech President Zeman, and the two sides exchanged views on the EU’s fiscal budget from 2021 to 2027 and the “recovery fund” for the coronavirus epidemic

cooperation between the Vishegrad (V4) countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia) and bilateral cooperation between Poland and Czech Republic and Czech Republic.

After the meeting, Polish President Duda said that he had reached a preliminary agreement with the EU on the EU budget and conditionality mechanism.

He introduced the outline of the agreement to Zeman and thanked Zeman for his support.

Zeman said that he had listened to Duda’s explanation of linking EU funds to the rule of law and his position. He said that Poland and Hungary should be supported on the EU budget.

Previously, the EU proposed to link the fiscal budget for 2021-2027 and the COVID-19 “Recovery Fund” to the implementation of EU rule of law rules in 27 member states. On November 16, Hungary and Poland voted against the budget.
