Moscow, November 3 The Russian Tu-160M strategic bomber successfully carried out its first flight after being replaced with a new engine on the 3rd. The upgraded bomber will be supplied to the Russian army in 2021.
According to the announcement issued by the Russian United Aviation Manufacturing Group Corporation on the 3rd, the Tu-160M strategic bomber completed its first flight at Kazan Airport that day after being replaced with the new NK-32-02 engine. The aircraft continued to fly at an altitude of 6000 meters for 2 hours and 20 minutes without any malfunction.
According to the announcement, the range of the Tu-160M strategic bomber can be increased by 1,000 kilometers after the replacement of the new engine.
In addition, the Tu-160M strategic bomber has been upgraded with new driving navigation equipment, airborne communication systems, control systems, radars and electronic countermeasures systems, and its combat capabilities have been greatly improved.
The Tu-160 bomber is a variable swept-wing supersonic long-range strategic bomber developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau.
It can launch long-range cruise missiles equipped with nuclear weapons and can carry up to 40 tons of various types of ammunition.
