MOSCOW, May 25 Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Committee, who is attending the 16th round of China-Russia strategic security consultations in Sochi on May 25.
Putin asked Yang to convey cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping. He said that Russia-China relations are at their best in history and it is important for the two heads of state to maintain close exchanges. Russia is firmly committed to promoting the high-level development of Russia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and is ready to further coordinate and cooperate closely with China in safeguarding multilateralism and contributing to the maintenance of global strategic stability.
Yang conveyed President Xi Jinping’s sincere greetings and message to President Putin. Yang said that under the personal guidance and strategy of the two heads of state, China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation in the new era has maintained a strong momentum of development. The two sides firmly support each other on issues involving each other’s core interests, set a new model of international relations based on mutual respect, fairness and justice, and win-win cooperation, and injected valuable stability and positive energy into a turbulent and changing world. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation between China and Russia, and China is ready to work with Russia to fully implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, conduct this consultation well and translate the high level of political mutual trust between China and Russia into more achievements of strategic cooperation.
On the same day, Yang Jiechi and Secretary of the Security Conference of the Russian Federation Patrushev co-chaired the 16th round of China-Russia strategic security consultations and exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensus on China-Russia relations and a series of major issues related to international security and strategic stability.
