On November 2, local time, Sergey Rybalchenko, Chairman of the Population Status Committee of the Russian Federation Public Chamber, said that the total population of Russia this year may decrease by more than 400,000 people.
According to the Russian Satellite News Agency, Rebalchen said in a speech at the “Society” Forum organized by the Russian Federation Public Chamber on the 2nd:
“The demographic situation in Russia is rapidly deteriorating. Since the beginning of 2020, the total population of Russia has decreased by 277,000. The natural reduction will reach 347,000. It is estimated that the natural population reduction will reach 520,000 in 2020, and the total population will decrease by 415,000.”
Rybalchenko pointed out that in order to stabilize the situation, Russia must increase resource input for the “demography” national project. The first is to increase investment in remote areas, especially the Russian Far East.
“We need a GDP growth rate of 2.1%. The most important thing is that at least 40% of the funds should be used to support families with many children.” He added.
According to the data of the Russian Federal Statistical Office in 2019, there are about 147 million people in Russia. Maintaining population growth has always been an important issue facing the Russian government.
In recent years, Russia has adopted various measures such as the “Mother Fund” plan to promote population growth.
