Moscow, November 4 (Reporter Wu Gang) Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Lukashenko talked on the phone on the 4th to discuss issues such as strengthening the Russia-Belarus alliance.
According to a communiqu issued on the Russian President’s website on the 4th, Lukashenko informed Putin of the current situation in Belarus, and the two sides reiterated to further strengthen the Russian-Belarus alliance.
The two heads of state spoke highly of the cooperation between Russia and Belarus in the fight against the new crown epidemic and believed that the agreement on Russia to provide Belarus with the new crown vaccine is of great significance.
The two sides also discussed bilateral economic and trade cooperation and the Nagorno-Karabakh (Naka) issue.
On August 9, Belarus held a new presidential election, and Lukashenko was re-elected with 80.1% of the vote. Large-scale protests took place in many cities in Belarus and questioned the election results.
The Russian side has stated on many occasions that it supports the normalization of the situation in Belarus and opposes external forces interfering in Belarus’s internal affairs.
Russia and Belarus signed a treaty establishing alliance states in December 1999.
The treaty stipulates that the two countries shall establish a confederate state while maintaining their respective national sovereignty, independence and national system.
