According to the Russian Satellite News Agency on December 23, a document released by the official website of Russian State Procurement shows that the NPO Energomash (NPO Energomash), a subsidiary of the Russian Aerospace State Group, plans to deliver six RD-180 “Atlas- 5” rocket-specific and four RD-181 “Antalis” rocket-specific engines.
NPO Energomash is preparing to insure six RD-180 and four RD-181 engines for transportation in 2021, the document states. The company said in January that it planned to deliver six RD-180s to the United States in 2020, but later did not mention transportation problems.
The RD-180 engine was used in the first stage equipped with Atlas-5 rockets. According to the company’s data, Russia has delivered 116 engines to the United States since 1999, 92 of which have been used.
The RD-181 engine was used to equip the first stage of the Antares rocket (2 per arrow). Since 2015, Russia has delivered a total of 22 to the United States, of which 16 have been in use.
NPO Energomash is responsible for producing RD-191 engines for the “Angara” launch vehicle, RD-180 engines for the “Atlas-5” rockets in the United States, the RD-181 engine for the “Antarius” rocket, and the new “Union-5” rocket (“Amount The R.R.) developed the RD-171MV engine.
