Not only ID cards and driving licenses, but also Italian passports, residence permits, gun permits, and red paper documents required for driving licenses will enjoy the extension policy.
ID card:
Currently, all ID cards issued by the Italian Public Administration that expire after January 31, 2020 can be extended to December 31, 2020. Similarly, if the electronic ID card expires after January 31, 2020, it can also be extended to December 31, 2020. According to the newly approved amendment, which has not yet been formally introduced, the validity period of the identity document can be extended to April 30, 2021.
It should be noted that the Validità ai fini dell’espatrio (Validità ai fini dell’espatrio) restriction date attached to the ID card cannot be extended and will become invalid based on the deadline shown. Therefore, citizens who want to use their ID cards to move to other EU countries still need to update their documents. However, there is no such problem in the ID card without immigration validity (Non valida ai fini dell’espatrio).
driver’s license:
Like an ID card, a driver’s license that expires between January 31, 2020 and December 30, 2020, has previously stipulated that the validity period can be extended to December 31, 2020. The latest amendment also extends the validity period of the driver’s license to April 30, 2021.
According to EU Regulation No. 698 of May 25, 2020, a driver’s license that expires between February 1, 2020 and August 31, 2020 is allowed to be extended for another 7 months from the date of expiration. You can still drive in other EU countries outside of Italy within 7 months after the license expires.
Red paper documents required for driving license test:
Decree No. 22208 of August 13, 2020 allows expired red paper documents to be extended. The validity period of the red paper documents will be extended to January 2021. Therefore, the time for driving license theory test and road test will also be extended.
Candidates must take the road test within 6 months after receiving the red paper documents. If the 6-month road test period expires between January 31, 2020 and October 15, 2020, the test period will be extended to January 13, 2021 day;
If the red paper document itself expires between January 31st and October 28th, 2020, candidates will have 2 months from October 29th to apply for extension documents that have passed the theory test and proceed in advance. road test.
It should be noted that the decree of the Prime Minister’s Office has given the necessary measures to be taken for the driver’s license examination to the transportation department to handle it. It has not been determined whether the deadline for relevant documents will be extended.
passport:
Passports that expire after January 31, 2020 can be extended to December 31, 2020.
According to the law, the certificates that can be extended include:
Bring a photo of the holder, a paper, magnetic card, electronic card and other documents that can identify the holder’s personal identity information issued by the public administration department of Italy or other countries;

However, if you want to use a passport to enter and exit the country, the validity period of the passport itself shall prevail.
resident permit:
The extension of the residence permit is consistent with the extension policy that has been promulgated before, and there is no change at present.
Seasonal work residence permit: if it expires from February 23 to May 31, 2020, the validity period can be extended to December 31, 2020;
The validity period of the residence permit that expires from January 31, 2020 to July 31, can be extended to August 31, 2020.
In order to avoid illegal employment in special periods, the policy allows holders of residence permits that expire after October 31, 2019 to apply for temporary residence permits. The deadline for application is August this year and the temporary residence is valid for 6 months.
