Moscow, January 26 Russian President Putin and US President Biden talked on the 26th for the first time on the phone to discuss the development of bilateral relations and global hot issues.

He said that in view of the special responsibility of Russia and the United States in maintaining world security and stability, the normalization of relations between the two countries is in the interests of the two countries and even the international community.

The announcement said that the presidents of the two countries expressed satisfaction with the exchange of diplomatic notes between Russia and the United States on the same day on the agreement to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

Russia and the United States will soon complete all the necessary procedures for the extension of the treaty.

The announcement said that the presidents of the two countries also discussed the development of bilateral relations and some global hot issues, including cooperation between the two countries in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic and economic and trade, the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the Open Sky Treaty, the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, and Russia’s initiative to convene a summit of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

According to a statement issued by the White House on the same day, Biden and Putin discussed their willingness to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty for five years on the phone call, agreed that the two teams should complete the extension of the Treaty as soon as possible by February 5, and agreed to hold strategic stability discussions on a series of arms control and emerging security issues.

The statement said that the leaders of the two countries agreed to continue to maintain “transparent and continuous” communication.
