On August 25, local time, Tajikistan’s President Rakhmon said that the current situation in Afghanistan remains a sharp global problem and poses a major threat to regional security.
According to the news release of the President’s Press Bureau, Rahmon met with visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi in the capital Dushanbe the same day, said that the Taliban’s acquisition of control of Afghanistan led to further complications in the geopolitical process in the region. Tajikistan firmly condemns any form of illegal acts, personal injury, looting, and surveillance of the Afghan people in Afghanistan.
Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan is a friendly neighbor of Afghanistan and supports peace and stability in the country, but that Afghanistan must form an inclusive new government. In particular, he noted that the United Nations should play a key role in resolving the Afghan problem.
