December 8 Recently, an unexplained disease broke out in Andhra Pradesh, India, and the patient showed symptoms similar to epilepsy. The medical team has gone to the local area to investigate. Preliminary research found that heavy metal lead and nickel appeared in the patient’s blood samples.
According to the India Express on the 8th, a preliminary survey released by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) showed that traces of heavy metal lead and nickel were found in at least 10 blood samples collected from all over the local town of Eluluru. The report said that this means that drinking water or milk containing lead and nickel is the possible cause of the disease.
Mohan, director of Eluru Government Hospital, said that due to the urgency of time and the small number of previous samples, more blood samples have been provided to the medical team for analysis. He said that 550 people have been hospitalized, of which 84 are still receiving treatment and will soon be discharged from the hospital.
According to previous reports, this unexplained disease has caused one death. Patients have seizure-like symptoms such as trembling, foaming at the mouth and nausea. After a short period of “epilepsy”, they will suddenly faint. Their COVID-19 tests are negative.
At present, the medical team investigation is still under way, and more detailed reports will be released later, including the condition, the tests performed, treatments, and the testing of drinking water and milk.
