CNN reported that Vice President Pence promised on the 14th local time that he would commit to an orderly transition and ensure a safe inauguration ceremony.
At FEMA briefings on the same day, Pence said: “We all went through the day of January 6, and as the President made clear yesterday (13th), we are committed to an orderly transition and a safe inauguration.”
“We will ensure that there is a safe inauguration.
In a manner that conforms to our history and tradition, and in a manner that honors the American people and the United States, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are sworn in as the new president and vice president of the United States.” Pence added.
According to the Hill, U.S. Vice President Pence also temporarily visited the U.S. Capitol on the 14th to express his condolences to the members of the National Guard stationed there after last week’s congressional riots.
Pence expressed his good wishes to the members and told the National Guard “safely the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of the new president and vice president.”
According to people familiar with the matter, Pence will attend Biden’s inauguration ceremony.
CNN said that Biden also said last week that he was happy that Pence would come. However, Trump has said that he will not participate.
On January 6, demonstrators in support of Trump’s overthrow of the 2020 U.S. presidential election forcibly broke into the U.S. Capitol for hours, and the ongoing joint meeting between the Senate and the House of Representatives to authenticate the results of the election was interrupted, killing six people, including two Capitol Hill policemen.
