The spokesperson of the embassy in Panama sent a letter to the Pakistani media to refute its false statements about Taiwan
On October 27, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Panama wrote to the “Free Metropolis” in Pakistan, categorically refuting the media’s recent false statements concerning Taiwan. The main contents are as follows:
Recently, your newspaper published an editorial titled “Resume Communication with Taiwan.” The article disregarded facts, confused the audience, and advocated that Taiwan and Pakistan “set up a branch.”
Given that the Taiwan issue is highly sensitive and bears on China’s core interests and the foundation of China-Pakistan relations, China must state its solemn position here:
The one-China principle and the correct handling of the Taiwan issue are China’s core interests and supreme concerns. It is related to China’s sovereign independence, territorial integrity and national security, as well as the national sentiments of the 1.4 billion Chinese people.
The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan was realized on the premise that Panama firmly committed to abide by the one-China principle and refrain from any official or semi-official exchanges with Taiwan.
The Taiwan issue is an issue left over from history and is purely China’s internal affair. It should be resolved by the Chinese on both sides of the strait by themselves, without external interference. On this issue, the Chinese government’s position has always been clear: there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of
Chinese territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Adherence to the one-China principle is the general trend and the aspirations of the people. It is a universally recognized norm of international relations and a universal consensus of the international community.
China highly appreciates the Panamanian government’s clear adherence to the one-China principle, and sincerely hopes that under the escort of this core political principle, China-Pakistan friendly and cooperative relations will strive to eliminate unnecessary interference, conform to the historical trend, and develop steadily for a long time. The two peoples bring tangible benefits.
