Since mid-April, the number of newly confirmed cases in Osaka Prefecture has been increasing, and the number of deaths has accelerated, Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reported Tuesday.
An analysis of outbreak data by Osaka Prefecture found that between October 2020 and February 2021, Coronavirus deaths under the age of 50 accounted for 1.9 per cent of all deaths, but between 1 March and 26 April 2021, the proportion increased about fourfold to 8 per cent.
The head of the Osaka Prefecture outbreak says it takes time from infection to onset, so the increase in deaths will be later than the increase in confirmed cases.
Reported that since mid-April, Osaka Prefecture’s growing number of confirmed cases are around a thousand, the death toll is likely to continue to increase for some time to come.
