December 17, UNESCO announced that the famous North African food “North African Rice” (couscous) has been officially included in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
A tweet on the day of the official social media account of the United Nations said: “The knowledge, practices and operations of making and consuming rice are a model of international cooperation.”
“North African millet”, also known as Gusmi or Kuskus, is a traditional North African staple food made from the crushed hard wheat grains that looks like millet. It was originally invented by the local indigenous Berbers and is mainly popular in Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.
