Nigerian President Buhari replaced four heads of the armed forces

January 26, Nigerian President Buhari said on social media that he accepted the request of the immediate resignation and retirement of the four former heads of the armed forces.

Buhari thanked them for their achievements.

Subsequently, he announced the names and positions of the four newly appointed heads of the armed forces, including the Chief of Defence Staff and the sea, land and air.

Chief of Staff of the Army, including Major General Leo Irabor appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Army, and Rear Admiral AZ Gambo was appointed Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ahiaka of the Air Force.

Isiaka Amao was appointed Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Local media analysis said that the move was a response of the Nigerian President to the deterioration of the security situation and to the Governor and the National Assembly’s call for a change of military chiefs.
