According to Nigerian media reports, in the early morning of February 26 local time, a girls’ high school in Zanfala State, northwest Nigeria, was attacked by armed bandits, and a large number of female students were kidnapped.

According to Abtu Yaro, the police chief of Zanfara State, the incident occurred at the Jangbe Public Girls’ High School in the local government district of Tarata Mafara, Zanfara.

According to preliminary statistics, the police have a total of 317 female students have been abducted. At present, a joint military-police search and rescue has begun.

Zanfala State in northwest Nigeria is one of the most raided states by bandits.

In order to prevent the attack, the Zamfara state government ordered the immediate closure of 10 schools bordering Kazina, Kaduna and Sokoto last December last year, which is prone to banditry for a long time, but the Jangbe Public Girls’ High School attacked this time is not on the list of closures.

Recently, Nigerian armed bandits have repeatedly attacked schools and kidnapped students in the northern part of its territory.

Local media analysis said that the bandits intended to use these hostages as a bargaining chip to negotiate with the government.

The most recent attack occurred in the early morning of February 17, when 27 students, 5 faculty and 9 families at the Kagala Local Government Science Institute in the State of Niger were kidnapped from the school, and 1 student was shot dead in the process of kidnapping.

At present, the 41 people are still unaccounted for, waiting for rescue.
