On October 30, WHO held a routine press conference for new Covid-19.
WHO Director-General Tan Desai said that coronavirus causes long-term health effects, and the so-called “natural herd immunity” strategy is unethical and unfeasible .
Not only will this cause millions of unnecessary deaths, it will also leave many people on a long road to recovery.
Only when safe and effective vaccines are distributed equitably around the world can herd immunity be possible. Some vaccines are currently in phase III clinical trials, and 186 economies have joined the “New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan”.
Lebanon and Botswana are the latest to join.
Tan Desai emphasized that the government and people must do all they can to contain the spread of the virus before getting the vaccine. This is currently the best way to prevent the long-term effects of new coronary pneumonia on health.
