Myanmar’s National Governing Council announced the formation of a caretaker government, Min Aung Rai, as prime minister

On August 1st, local time, after declaring that the state of emergency would be extended until the end of August 2023, the Myanmar National Governing Council issued a circular saying that a caretaker government would be established, with Min Aung Rai, chairman of the State Administration Committee, as prime minister of the caretaker government and Vice-President Soe Win as deputy prime minister.

The caretaker government also includes the heads of government, the Attorney-General, the Permanent Secretary, and will restructure the provincial and state governments, which will complete the functions of State governance until a new Government is elected at the next general election.
