Helmand provincial councillors said the Taliban surrounded the prison and police headquarters there.

According to another source, all media in Helmand province have stopped broadcasting because of the intensification of the conflict in Lashkar Gah. On the morning of 2 August, the Taliban took over the offices of state television in The 1st District of Lashkar Gah.

Helmand province was once one of the Taliban’s main bases, where U.S. and NATO coalition forces have long faced off against the Taliban.
