Recently, the Myanmar police have continued to file a case against performers in accordance with Article 505A of the Criminal Code, according to the announcement published by the Myanmar official media Global New Light in recent days. As of April 8, the police have issued arrest warrants for more than 120 actors, singers, directors, Internet celebrities and journalists.

Since April 2, Myanmar’s state media issued 20 arrest warrants every day against entertainers accused of using their popularity to support protests, support the Federal Parliament Representative Committee, and incite civil servants to participate in strikes.

It is understood that about 10 entertainers have been arrested. Section 505A of the Burma Penal Code provides that “a person who incites the public or public servants of the government causes panic, spreads false news, and commits crimes against the federal government or national stability shall be punished by imprisonment of up to two years, fine or both.”
