January 21st local time, Moroccan local media quoted a report by the U.S. International Trade Agency as saying that Morocco’s procurement of armaments from the United States more than doubled last year, from $4 billion in 19 to $8.5 billion last year.

The report pointed out that the Royal Moroccan Army purchased a medium-range surface-to-air missile defense system from the United States last year, the Patriot Air Defense System, with a view to enhancing the Moroccan army’s air defense capabilities.

In addition, Morocco purchased 25 new F-16 fighters, 24 new Apache attack helicopters and G550 early warning aircraft from the United States last year.

Morocco is the country that purchases the most U.S. arms in Africa.

In addition, France and Spain are also important sources of arms purchases in Morocco.
