Burkina Faso local officials said on May 3rd that a village in the eastern province of Comungari had been attacked by unidentified armed men that day, killing more than a dozen people.
Burkina Faso’s eastern region chief Sanu said in a statement the same day, the dead including two soldiers and more than a dozen civilians, and a number of houses were burned. Security forces are currently conducting search operations in the area. Sanu also called on the public to be vigilant and work closely with the defense and security forces.
Since 2015, burkina Faso has experienced frequent attacks by militants and the security situation is critical. On 26 April this year, two Spanish journalists and an Irish Eco-Protection Movement supporter were killed in an attack by armed men on a patrol convoy in the eastern province of Gulma. On the same day, unidentified armed men attacked several villages in the Sahel, killing at least 18 people.
