May 7 2021 More than 200 employees of two tea plantations in Assam, India, tested positive for the Coronavirus, and local authorities had to designate the area as a “quarantine zone.”
Assam government sources said more than 150 people at the Zaroni Tea Garden tested positive for the Coronavirus, and 60 people at the Maya Yang Tea Garden were infected with the Coronavirus, New Delhi TV reported On The 6th.
The Zaroni Tea Garden has now been closed. Local plantation medics and health officials have travelled to the area to assess the investigation. Two vacant staff quarters and a hospital in the tea garden have been set up as temporary isolation centres to accommodate Coronavirus patients.
Local officials said they will also organize vaccinations in tea plantations from June 6, and many have called for vaccinations to be arranged as soon as possible, fearing that workers working nearby could spread the virus. At present, the local government has also closed the market near the tea garden.
