January 27th local time, Vice Chairman Medvedev of the Russian Federal Security Council said on a social networking website that the United States and Russia have reached an agreement on the five-year extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
He is personally very happy that Russian President Putin and US President Biden can reach such a speedy agreement to extend the treaty, which will be an important guarantee for maintaining the strategic stability of the world.
At present, the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty is the only effective major arms control treaty between Russia and the United States.
Previously, Russia and the United States held several rounds of negotiations on the extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, but no substantial progress has been made.
