According to Ansa on January 27, Giara Appetino, mayor of Turin, Italy, and four other defendants were sentenced to one and a half years in prison by the local court for a stampede in the Santa Carlo Square in Turin in 2017.

After receiving the judgment, Apetino said that she did not intend to shirk her responsibility, but was confident in the appeal at the subsequent trial stage.

On June 3, 2017, thousands of fans gathered in the square of San Carlo, Turin, Italy, to watch the Champions League game through the big screen.

A stampede occurred because the security alarm in the square was triggered and the crowd panicked.

A total of 1,600 people were injured and 2 people died in the accident.
