Kiev Court of Appeal revokes the arrest warrant for former Uganda President Yanukovych

Kiev, November 17 According to the Ukrainian National News Agency on the 16th, the Kiev Court of Appeal decided on the same day to revoke the arrest warrant issued by the court of first instance against former Uzbek President Yanukovych and send the case back to the court of first instance. Trial.

Yanukovych’s defense lawyer Vitali Serdyuk posted on social media on the 16th that the Kiev Court of Appeal revoked the arrest warrant issued by the Pechersky District Court of Kiev City in May this year for Yanukovych’s arrest. It was the court and the prosecutor that violated Uzbek’s Criminal Procedure Law in many cases and lacked sufficient evidence for the defendant’s suspected crime.

Yanukovych became President of Ukraine in 2010 for a five-year term. There was a political crisis in Ukraine in early 2014, and Yanukovych left Ukraine.

In January 2019, the Kyiv Obolon District Court sentenced Yanukovych in absentia to 13 years in prison for “treason” and other charges. Yanukovych denied guilt and filed an appeal. Currently, the Uzbek Supreme Court has not yet made a final judgment on this case.
