According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the 8th that Kang Changyi, the nominee for South Korea’s ambassador to Japan, had obtained the consent of the Japanese government at the end of last year and was officially appointed as the new ambassador on the same day.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in nominated Kang Changyi, a former member of the ruling Common Democratic Party, as his new ambassador to Japan in November last year.

Yonhap said that this was Moon Jae-in’s first promotion of politicians to Japan, demonstrating his determination to improve South Korea-Japan relations.

In addition, Japan’s new ambassador to South Korea, Koichi Ayoshi, has also obtained the consent of the South Korean government to take up his new role at the end of the month at the earliest.
