April 9th According to a report by Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun on the 9th, a Japanese man suspected of setting fire to a building in Tokushima City in March this year (2021). After his arrest, he confessed to the police that his modus was modeled on the “Kyoani” incident.
According to the report, on March 14, Shigeru Okada, a 38-year-old Japanese man, set fire to the scene after spilling gasoline on the three floors of a building in Tokushima City.
A five-member female idol group was holding a concert on the fourth floor of the building, and there were about 70 spectators at the scene. Because of the timely asylum, everyone escaped from the fire in time, as long as a man in his 50s was slightly injured by inhaling smoke.
On March 24, local police arrested Okada, who was suspected of arson, and found that he had purchased about 14 litres of gasoline at a self-service gas station in Tokushima Prefecture hours before the arson.
After Okada’s arrest, he admitted to the fact that he set fire and confessed that he intended to imitate the “Kyoani” incident. Police also found the surrounding goods of the female idol group that held the concert at that time in his home.
The Kei Ani arson incident occurred in July 2019. The suspect Shinji Aoba bought gasoline before committing the crime and broke into the first studio of Kyoto Animation Company (Kyoani) with gasoline, spilling gasoline and igniting it. The studio had three floors, all burned down, with 36 people killed in the fire and 33 injured to varying degrees.
