According to the website of Italy’s newspaper Republic on January 11, an international research team led by the University of Milan in Italy found a biopsy sample of a 25-year-old woman with dermatitis symptoms on November 10, 2019.
This result further advanced the appearance of Patient 1 in Italy to November 2019.
The results of the study are published in the British Journal of Dermatology.
The researchers tested biopsy samples of patients with atypical skin diseases that were not diagnosed in the last few months of 2019 and found that the only symptom of the patient after contracting the novel coronavirus was red plaque on the skin.
In addition, the patient detected antibodies to the novel coronavirus in a serological test in June 2020.
Researchers at the University of Milan believe that this is the earliest human case of COVID-19.
“Through their research findings that some cases of COVID-19 only show symptoms of skin disease,” said Milan University researcher Garotti, so they wanted to know if any of the skin-disease patients before the outbreak had the coronavirus.
