February 21 According to local media such as the Italian newspaper “Republic” on the 20th (local time), the Italian sculptor Arturo Di Modica died several years after fighting against cancer at the age of 80.
Di Modica is well known for making a Wall Street bronze bull statue known as the “Wall Street symbol”.
It is reported that Di Modica, who has lived in New York for more than 40 years, is known to be inspired by Black Monday, which began with the collapse of global stock markets in October 1987.
Dee Modica, who later explained the background of the production, once said, “I wanted to make people aware of the fact that they were strong” and took on the production cost of Copper Bull at his own expense of about $350,000.
In December 1989, Di Modicard erected the statue in front of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) without permission from the New York City government. At that time, after the police demolished the bronze cow with illegal sculptures, people complained.
Copper Bull was then moved to a park near the exchange with permission from the New York City government.
In December 2019, New York City announced plans to move Copper Bull back to the exchange , suffed as a citation of visitor safety.
The plan was strongly opposed by Dee Modica and said that “the location is perfect now”.
