January 12th local time, outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo said in a speech that Iran has become the new “base” of Al-Qaeda and has been providing shelter for Al-Qaeda’s senior leaders. Pompeo did not publish any relevant evidence, and his remarks were immediately refuted by the Iranian side.
Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif said in a social media article on the 12th that as Mr. Pompeo, as a “liar, cheating, stealing”, had just put Cuba back on the list of countries that support terrorism, and fabricated false information about Iran and accused Iran of being associated with Al-Qaeda.
Zarif said that Pompeo was about to end his disastrous term with a sad lie, and no one would be fooled by him.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Khati Buzad said that the allegations that the United States claimed that Iran and Al-Qaeda were linked were groundless, and Iran had a clear record of fighting Al-Qaeda and extremist organizations.
At the same time, Iran has always been a victim of national terrorism and American-supported terrorist organizations.
Hatti Buzad said that Pompeo was about to end his term, repeating the accusations against Iran at this time, and fabricating false information under the pretext of “disclosure of confidential documents”, indicating the despair, helplessness and failure of the current U.S. government’s “extreme pressure” policy on Iran.
Such a means will not help the United States correct its wrong path and will not gain its reputation.
