Nada, chairman of the ruling Bharatiya Novosti party, condemned “violent murder after the election results were announced,” according to the Press Trust of India (PTI). He claimed that 14 Indian Party workers had been killed and some 80,000 people had fled their homes during the violence.
According to Nada, many villages in the state were looted and destroyed, forcing people to flee to the neighboring state of Assam to seek refuge. In addition, there have been vicious incidents of assault and sexual assault of women in many places.
On May 2nd, local time, the results of the West Bengal elections were announced, with the grass-roots Congress party beating the Indo-Chinese Party by a clear margin, winning 213 of the state’s 292 seats.
