India-U.S. “2+2” ministerial dialogue ends and Indian media: no results on substantive issues

The Indian Defense News Network published an analytical article on the 30th and pointed out that the “2+2” ministerial meeting between India and the United States has ended, leaving a series of uncertainties. In terms of substance, the meeting did not yield any results.

Except for word games, there are no real results. The joint statement issued after the “2+2” meeting is more like a “tour d’horizon” (tour d’horizon).

The article pointed out that under Trump’s leadership, the few remaining humanistic content in the relationship between India and the United States has also been drained, and the focus has been shifted to military affairs.

Therefore, the “2+2” meeting schedule, which is only one week away from the US general election on November 3, remains a mystery. The United States is in a turbulent political transition period.

No matter who wins the election, US policy will change. It is illogical to try to anchor India-US relations in the domestic political turmoil of the United States.

The article believes that India cannot expect the US Secretary of State Pompeo to go to Delhi to make China feel uneasy, because they do not take Pompeo seriously. For the Chinese, Pompeo is more like a giant obsessed with role-playing games on the shelves of a toy store than a half-man, half-horse monster that must be driven away.

With the signing of the “Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement” (BECA) between India and the United States, India’s status as a member of the BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization has lost its appeal.

Russia will have doubts when it transfers cutting-edge military technology to India in the future. The international community will believe that an Indian-US military alliance is emerging in the geopolitics of the region.

This will inevitably make many traditional friends and neighbors of India feel disappointed and vigilant, and affect their attitude towards India. The realignment of geopolitics may follow.
