21 August 2021 Hurricane Grace brought heavy rains hit the Mexican state of Veracruz, causing severe flooding and mudslides. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says it is located about 105 kilometers from Mexico City.
Veracruz Governor Quettawak Garcia told a news conference that a total of eight people were killed in the collapse of houses and natural disasters caused by the hurricane, six of them from a family.
Grace is one of the strongest storms to hit the country’s Gulf Coast in recent years, with maximum sustained winds of 201 kilometers per hour. In the early hours of the 21st, Grace made landfall on the coast near the resort of Tkolutra in Veracruz state. By 1600 hours of the same day, the winds had weakened rapidly as Grace moved inland, eventually dissipating in central Mexico.
