December 21st – On theĀ evening of the 20th local time, London Airport in the United Kingdom fell into chaos, and hundreds of passengers crowded into the last flight before Ireland’s ban on the United Kingdom came into effect.
According to the Daily Mail, London Heathrow Airport was in chaos that night, and hundreds of passengers wanted to squeeze in the last flight to Dublin, the capital of Ireland.
People crowded at Heathrow Terminal 5 for updates on a British Airways flight that had been overbooked, operated by Air Ireland, which was scheduled to take off at 8:55 p.m. for Dublin.
“The Irish government finally gave the green light to the flight, which was scheduled to take off at 10.30 p.m. and was expected to land 15 minutes before the travel ban came into effect,” tweeted 23-year-old passenger Rachel Scully.
She wrote: “The Irish government has given us a green light, and we have checked in for the flight. The plane will land at 23:45, and people cheered as soon as the news came out. Christmas miracle!”
Unlike excited British tourists, Irish netizens expressed dissatisfaction on social platforms. One netizen commented: “With all due respect, you are from one of the worst areas of the epidemic and carry a more serious virus. You guys risk taking it to Ireland.
Please consider staying where you are.” Another user wrote: “Please reconsider your plan. You may bring more infectious viruses to Ireland. Older and infirm people are spending Christmas alone because they can’t see their families because of the pandemic.
You guys are so selfish that there are good reasons to ban flights from the UK here.”
Ireland announced a 48-hour temporary travel ban on non-essential flights from the United Kingdom, which will take effect in the early morning of the 21st.
at least 12 countries, including Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, Kuwait, Bulgaria and Argentina, have taken measures to deal with the discovery of new strains of the novel coronavirus in the United Kingdom.
