The Greek Minister of Education, Niki Kerameus, officially announced on the evening of January 4 local time that the Greek government had decided to reopen kindergartens, primary schools and special education schools on January 11th, following the recommendations of the Committee of Experts earlier that day.
Kailamez said that the decision also took into account the special situation and emotional needs of young students.
The current conditions have allowed kindergartens and primary schools to be the first to reopen.
According to the introduction, the Committee of Experts also discussed the security measures needed when schools reopened through a conference call earlier in the day.
Experts are proposing random COVID-19 testing for students and teachers, as well as implementing a plan for staggered peak classes.
The Greek Minister of Education said that after kindergartens and primary schools reopen, secondary schools will be reopened on the agenda.
