Ghanaian President Akufo Addo announced in a televised speech on the evening of January 17 local time that a variant of the novel coronavirus has been found in Ghana, and the spread of the new variant virus still needs to be confirmed.
Akufo Addo pointed out that the recent surge in COVID-19 cases has also shown an upward trend in severe and deaths.
It is worrying that a considerable number of severe patients are young people without basic diseases, and Ghana’s COVID-19 treatment center has changed from zero patients before to now operating at full capacity.
There are currently 13 of Ghana’s 16 provinces reporting COVID-19 cases, with 1,924 reported cases of current cases.
Akufo Addo said that Ghanaian police will strengthen law enforcement to ensure that all personnel in public places wear masks, arrest those who violate epidemic prevention norms, and close all nightclubs, bars, cinemas and beaches that violate epidemic prevention norms.
