At present, the COVID-19 epidemic is still spreading in many parts of the world, and the world economy is in a deep recession. The 15th summit of G20 leaders can be said to be held at a timely time to show the way to fight the epidemic and revitalize the economy.
The serious situation facing many countries shows that the world is experiencing a serious crisis. As China pointed out at the first phase of the Fifteenth Summit of G20 Leaders, looking back on the coming year 2020, mankind has experienced the worst infectious disease pandemic in a century. More than one million people have unfortunately lost their lives, the world economy has fallen into recession, and social and people’s livelihood have been hit hard.
If it hadn’t been for some Western countries that pursued unilateralism and protectionism, instead of doing their best to fight the epidemic, they would have devoted their energy to blaming other countries, the epidemic might not have been out of control. Up to now, in order to deal with this global public health crisis, countries must strengthen exchanges and cooperation and do their best to help other countries.
Unite and work together are the expectations of the world for G20 member states. As one of them, China is willing to make every effort for the well-being of the international community, especially poor countries. China told the leaders of other G20 member states that first of all, we should do a good job in epidemic prevention and control, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and help other countries. Support the World Health Organization to coordinate and integrate resources and distribute vaccines fairly and effectively. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with other countries and strive to make vaccines a public good that people of all countries can use and afford.
In addition, in order to cope with the debt vulnerability risk of low-income countries caused by the epidemic, China is willing to work with G20 members to implement the “Initiative to suspend debt repayment of the poorest countries”. So far, the State Agency for International Development Cooperation and the Export-Import Bank of China, as official bilateral creditors, have fully implemented debt relief applications that meet the requirements of the initiative, with debt relief amounting to $1,353 million, benefiting 23 countries.
China hopes to push global governance back on track and work for the common interests of mankind. China is willing to seek peaceful coexistence and common development with other countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. China will always adhere to being the builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order.
In fact, China has cooperated with other countries to make many efforts to achieve the above goals. On the 15th, the ten ASEAN countries and China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand officially signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). On the 20th, the 27th informal meeting of APEC leaders was held. These have shown the outside world the dawn of multilateralism and free trade over unilateralism and protectionism.
In any case, more and more countries recognize that unilateralism and protectionism have no way out, which will greatly help fight the epidemic and recover the economy.
