On November 30, local time, Gottlieb, the former director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said on the U.S. consumer news and business channel Financial Forum that 30% of Americans are expected to be infected with the novel coronavirus by the end of 2020.
Gottlieb said that in states with more severe outbreaks such as North Dakota and South Dakota, the number of infected people may even reach 50% of the state’s total population. Gottlieb stressed that because not all infected people have been tested for the virus and finally diagnosed, the actual number of infections in the United States may be much higher than official statistics.
