Aug. 20 2021The U.S. earlier blamed the Afghan government and troops for the chaos when it withdrew from Afghanistan, claiming that the U.S. gave Afghans all the tools they needed, but they didn’t use them well. In response, Ahmad Wali Massoud, Afghanistan’s former ambassador to the UK, retorted that the US had nurtured the Afghan president and that the US must share responsibility for the chaos it had caused in Afghanistan.
In an interview with Russia’s Rosneum news agency, Masood said Afghan President Asif Ghani, an Afghan-American, was brought back to Afghanistan by the Americans and appointed by the Americans to lead the country. So whatever happens is not the fault of the Afghans. Masood stressed that Ghani should bear the blame for political leadership mistakes, but also the U.S. side must take responsibility for Ghani’s position.
