According to the report, the fire occurred in a building under construction at the Indian Serum Institute in the western Indian city of Pune.

The mayor of Pune said that five people died.

After the fire was brought under control, rescue workers found the bodies of five victims in the building under construction.

The Indian Serum Institute is responsible for producing millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals and Oxford University.

“[The fire] will not affect the production of a coronavirus vaccine,” a company source said.

Indian Prime Minister Modi said on social media that he was “saddened by the lost lives caused by the fire” and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

“We are deeply saddened and extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” Adar Punawara, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, also said on social media.
