20th local time, the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University announced on Twitter that Ezra F. Vogel, a famous scholar on Sino-American issues and the former director of the Research Center, has passed away at the age of 90.
The tweet wrote that Fu Gaoyi has supported the research center for a long time, is a wise scholar and an outstanding friend, and will miss him deeply.
Fu Gaoyi graduated from Wesley University in Ohio in 1950, received a PhD in sociology from Harvard University in 1958, and became a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard from 1963 to 1964, studying Chinese and history.
He has been observing and writing about China issues for decades, and has a deep understanding of China’s political, public opinion, and socio-economic conditions. He is considered the only scholar in the United States who is proficient in both China and Japan.
