December 19th local time, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a speech to the COVID-19 town hall for children and their families in the United States that even if older family members have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, other family members still need to wear their mouths when contacting them.
“Vaccines are extremely important to end the pandemic, but we still need to stick to wearing masks as a basic public health measure until almost everyone is vaccinated,” Fauci said.
In addition, Fauci explained why American children are not currently allowed to be vaccinated in this speech.
Fauci said that the vaccine can only show safety and efficacy for adults at present. Vaccine research experts will test children’s vaccinations in the next month or two.
