Overseas Network, December 25th – Fauci, the top infectious disease expert in the United States, said in an interview on Thursday (24th) that up to 90% of Americans may need to be immunized or immunized by contracting the virus to obtain herd immunity against the novel coronavirus.
Fauci earlier believed that 60 to 70 percent of the population must be immunized before shed immunity can be achieved. In an interview with The New York Times on the 24th, he said that he had been raising the valuation based on new evidence and felt that Americans were more willing to trust this data.
Fauci said that when polls showed that only about half of Americans would be vaccinated, he said that 70 to 75% of people who were immunized against herd. Now the poll shows that 60% of Americans are willing to be vaccinated, he increased the proportion of immunized people to 80% to 85%.
Fauci said that while few people mentioned it, he believed that containing the novel coronavirus might require nearly 90% of people to obtain immunity, which is almost the same as the immunity required to contain the measles outbreak.
Fauci also said that because many Americans still oppose vaccination, it may make it difficult to reach the 90% threshold.
A USA Today/SU poll released on the 24th showed that there was a disagreement between the majority of Americans interviewed who were immediately vaccinated and waited for a period of time before vaccination.
When asked why they delayed or even didn’t get the vaccine, 62 percent of the overwhelming number of people who hesitated said they were worried that the drug was unsafe.
Recent reports show that after the news of severe allergic reactions to Pfizer vaccine was revealed, people’s concerns about the safety of the coronavirus vaccine ordered by the U.S. government increased.
But even so, health professionals support the continued rollout of the vaccine, emphasizing that this adverse reaction is rare and easy to cure.
