Facebook said its services in Myanmar had been “interrupted,” AFP reported.
According to TechCrunch, a technology media website, on February 4, Myanmar’s military junta has ordered local telecommunications operators to temporarily prohibit users from accessing Facebook services until midnight on February 7.
Several users on Myanmar’s social networking website subreddit reported that their mobile phones could no longer access Facebook, indicating that the ban has taken effect.
It is reported that the military junta has asked Myanmar telecom operators to impose a ban before midnight on Wednesday (about 4:30 a.m. local time on Thursday).
Myanmar’s military junta said that Facebook had exacerbated the instability in the country and cited the provisions of the local telecommunications law to justify its actions.
