The Hill reported on February 1 that dozens of members of former President George W. Bush’s administration are planning to leave the Republican Party after the impact on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, on the grounds that the party has been supporting former President Trump.
Sources told Reuters that as many as 60 former officials will leave the Republican Party in the next few days.
Rosario Marin, a former official of the U.S. Treasury Department, said: “If the Republican Party continues as Trump’s party, many of us will not go back.
Many of us will not vote for GOP leaders again unless the Senate convicts him and gets rid of Trump’s cancer.”
Christopher Purcell, who served in the White House Communications Office during George W. Bush, said that “the number of [defectors] is increasing every day”.
