United Nations, December 21. Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, delivered a speech at the Security Council’s public video meeting on the Middle East on the 21st, calling on Palestine and Israel to resume their equal dialogue at an early date.
Geng Shuang said that Palestine and Israel are neighbors that cannot be moved. The two sides should stick to the strategic choice of peace talks and resume equal dialogue at an early date.
China welcomes the initiative of Palestinian President Abbas to convene an international peace conference early next year, and appreciates the resumption of civil and security cooperation between Palestine and Israel and the resumption of the transfer of tax collections. The international community should uphold an objective and fair stand and make sincere efforts to advance the Middle East peace process.
Any solution to the Palestinian issue must listen to the voices of regional countries, especially the Palestinian side, take into account the concerns of all parties and avoid imposing them on others.
Geng Shuang said that the relevant UN resolutions, the principle of “land for peace” and the “two-state plan” have condensed the wisdom and hard work of several generations and must be observed and implemented.
China is concerned about the continued advancement and significant expansion of settlement activities. China calls on all parties concerned to abide by UN resolutions, delimit the final border between Palestine and Israel through peaceful negotiations, refrain from taking unilateral actions that intensify contradictions, abandon the annexation plan, and stop settlement activities.
Geng Shuang said that in recent months, the number of demolished Pakistani houses has continued to increase, violence against civilians has continued to escalate, and hundreds of children have been displaced due to house demolitions.
China urges relevant parties to lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip as soon as possible, stop demolishing Palestinian houses and destroying Palestinian properties, and prevent violence against civilians.
Geng Shuang said that under the current situation, the international community must attach great importance to the impact of the new crown epidemic on the Palestinian economy and humanitarian conditions. China appreciates the unremitting efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East to improve the humanitarian situation in Palestine.
Since the beginning of this year, China has provided Pakistan with several batches of anti-epidemic materials, dispatched anti-epidemic medical experts, and donated money to the Agency.
Not long ago, the anti-epidemic materials provided by the Chinese government to the medical institutions under the Agency and the “health packs” provided by the Agency to Palestinian refugees in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria all arrived and delivered.
China is willing to continue to work with the international community to make unremitting efforts for the early realization of a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.
